Cheese:
CheeseGuard Defoil

The DVC Machinevision CheeseGuard Defoil is a high-quality visual inspection solution for detecting blue foil residues and other defects on round and rectangular cheeses. Depending on the configuration, the system carries out inspections from multiple angles, covering up to six sides (top, bottom, left, right, front and back).

Multi-camera system
Intuitive user interface
Inspection rate: 100%

The system detects the following surface defects:

  • Blue foil residues, minimum defect size 3.0 mm².
  • Mould – green/white/black, minimum defect size 3.0 mm².

Optionally, the system can also detect dark spots and red bacteria. Also, customisation is possible for the detection of dry or discoloured areas, streaks and cracks. In addition, other types of cheese can be inspected, such as goat’s cheese, sheep’s cheese, Samsø, Cheddar Yellow and Cheddar Red.

The CheeseGuard Defoil from DVC Machinevision

The CheeseGuard in Defoil configuration – equipped with 2 to 6 cameras – is a fully automated in-line vision system, developed for 24/7 use in industrial cheese-processing environments. The system inspects rectangular cheeses from multiple angles and identifies blue foil residues with high accuracy.

The system utilises advanced camera technology and optimised lighting, ensuring reliable detection of coloured foil defects.

Depending on the model, a processing speed of up to 30 metres per minute is possible, or a maximum of 10 cheeses per minute.

The system is housed in a stainless steel casing (IP68/IP67), features a powerful controller and an industrial 17” touchscreen HMI (IP65). The food-grade protective cover on both the housing and the touchscreen allows for intensive cleaning.

The CheeseGuard Defoil can be easily integrated into the existing production process. Our staff provide installation, training and remote support during office hours on working days.

The optional Flap Detection module determines the position of the foil flap on wrapped cheese. This allows verification that the flap, which is created when the foil is cut on three sides, is positioned on the correct side of the product for downstream handling and processing. Using an additional camera, the system provides reliable flap orientation control, improving process consistency and product handling. For reliable detection, the foil flap must protrude at least 10 mm from the cheese.
